Inside Out

A personal statement about my twenty-five years of studying and painting with limited acknowledgement from the art world. Popularity of artists was also seasonal and short-lived. My dream of contributing to the creative side of painting came to an end. It seemed pointless. Inside Out was my last painting before I refrained from Visual Art for seven years (aside from one commissioned 1971 historical painting, “Yonge Street, 1771”). Order & Calculation Intruding

In my last three Hard Edge paintings before the decade of the sixties ended, I refrained from geometrical straight lines and employed open, loose forms. In this painting a small square that appears constructive and organized enters from the left like an intrusion. As to the method of Hard Edge paintings, refer to image Cliff Structure. Sextet
Inspired by interwoven patterns of music by J.S. Bach. Six linear geometrical forms overlap as six instruments play different, non-conflicting melodies in space and time. Self-Portrait
Although formally related to Cubism, it is of representational character. This painting stems from a time before travelling to Canada. Olga Neely / Kirkland Lake
At a Northern Ontario Exhibition in Timmins, they awarded me with three first prizes and sent the portrait of Ann Neely to Toronto’s National Exhibition. Both Portraits of the Neely’s remained with the family. Oil on canvas board / 60 cm x 40 cm / 1954
